I'm looking for some insight on what are typical construction administration and inspection costs for civil infrastructure work (roadway, curbing, drainage, utilities, etc.) as a percentage of construction cost. The project is straight forward...no extreme site conditions, adequate timeframe for construction, very clear scope, etc. I'm looking for what a typical engineering firm would charge to administer the construction documents and have a resident inspector on site throughout construction. Thanks in advance for any insight.

There are many intangibles that would formulate the above mentioned costs: type of const./methods, location(s), fabrication/casting location(s), schedule (no. of folks required), materials, and of course the larger projects tend to reflect a lower engineering cost.

best guess

2-4 mil. and under (small) proj.7-9%+
10+ larger - 5-7%

Depends somewhat on the client, the complexity of the project, the competition, and the size of the project.

Typically 5-10% is the range. The larger the project, the lower the fee.
