I am trying to find use for an innovative micro-motor that works with Piezo elements. These Piezo elements can create a linear movement. See the short video below which shows the functionality.

My question is if you know any possible areas of application for this motor?

Thank you very much for your replies - I highly appreciate them!

Models, watches, robots, etc. There is always great uses for "small things"

thank you mike!

besides the smallness further benefits are the so-called "zero hold force" (the motor doesnt need any power to hold its position) and the precision of the motor. hence you could build a lock without the need of power to hold the locked state.

in addition a by-product is the really fine thread which makes the pin move. this could be used for a very fine and precise drill for example.

can you think of any specific benefits considering these additional benefits?

thanks a lot,
Felix

I have worked with motors that I suspect were similar, but on a somewhat larger scale. They worked just fine, but were acoustically noisy. Not just a little buzz; a really loud one. That greatly limited their market. I think some poor bastard tooled up to produce them in substantial quantity, and lost a heap of money for his trouble.

How many of these motors have you actually built, in the physical world?

The problem with the noise should be under control now. Do you know maybe the name of this guy that was using those motors?

I can't tell you the exact number we have built (but i will find out soon and post it here if you are interested).

The technology can be used for plenty of applications. For example an autofocus. Another really interesting field is medical technology
