I design printed circuit boards in solidworks, but all information about component locations is in autocad (dxf, dwg). Inserting aoutocad as an object makes solidworks inoperable- to many sketch elements.
Is there any sane way to transfer this info?
Any suggestion will be appresiated. Currently I have to recreate component locations in solidworks manually.

Thank you.

No need to insert dxf or dwg files as objects, simply open the dwg file into SW:-

File
Open
select Files of type
select file
select Import to part
Next
select settings required
Finish

You should now have the dwg elements in a SW sketch, which can be manipulated using normal SW practices.

[cheers] & all the best.

Sorry, but I got error message about insufficient memory. Too much of geometry to handle.
Any suggestions?

Thank you.

1) Close down all other programs before opening the Acad file.
2) Minimise the Acad file by deleting everything except what is needed to be opened in the SW sketch.
3) Check your Virtual Memory settings. 4) Get more RAM.

[cheers] & all the best.

whyn you import the drawing to a sketch to can select layers. Maybe you can only insert the layer containing the usefull information??
