Inserting GIS objects into AutoCAD drawing

Is there anyway to extract object out of an existing GIS Map and insert it to AutoCAD?

A local utility company has provided us with their GIS map & with all of their existing utility layout & information in it. Is there an easy way for me to insert their utility lines to our AutoCAD dwg? I know their pipe information contain coordinate information, length, etc., but if all I can extract is the coordinate information then that would mean I have to redraw every single pipe segment in my existing drawing. It seems like a tedious way of doing it.

In Land Desktop, the function you're after is under the map pulldown, then tools, and finally import. I'm not sure if basic versions of cad can do this.

Conversion software exists to convert shapefiles to various cad languages. I would think you might end up purchasing a batch conversion tool, unless you can have the utility export the files to you in a format you can use. Got friends there?

If you have GIS installed in your computer, you could save the info as a dxf file, if all your coordinates are right and the layers the utility company is working with are also in the same coordinates, eveything should fall on the right place. Better recommendation, ask the utility company to give you this info in a dxf file format.
