during the inspection of weldolet, it was found there a mismatch in the inside id. The run pipe hole was smaller than the weldolet ID. Hence it was advised to flush grind to match the id. However now the QC has rejected the weld stating that flush grinding is not allowed as per code. The piping code is B31.3. while flush grinding the weld bead was removed. Please advice if there is any provision in the code to have the weld accepted.

Weld bead can be flushed but you cannot remove the the material beyong base metal thickness.

Runpipe smaller is not a Code matter but a design matter if the hle was larger then is a Code issue.

Per B31.3 max mismatch allowed is 3 mm.you would not need flushing of weld if penetration is adequate per code. As per GenB check if the revised opening in header is safe per branch design calculation.
