Insight on how intent manager works

I suspect that I have something in my section that is creating this situation; however, If somebody has any insight on how intent manager works, maybe I can circumvent the problem.

More specifically, I have a skeleton and in that skeleton I have a sketched curve which I am using as a linkage driver. This sketch curve has some 50 lines/circles and this is the sketch that my intent manager has problems with. By problems, I mean that the creation of one more line, with all the automatic constraints turned off, takes a minimum of 3 minutes, irregardless of which computer I use. When I turn Intent Manager off, the speed returns to normal. The problem with working w/o intent manager is that sketcher will not properly regenerate my sketch and the additional line is lost.

In addition, I have two other similar skeletons with sketched linkage drivers that were created independently, different people, which have the same problem. If I do not have to add an additional line, these linkage drivers work very well; ie., they quickly extend and contract to some very extreme conditions with out any problems. It appears that intent manager gets confused with large (what is large?) sketches. In addition this problem seems to be progressive; ie., the more lines I put on the section, the slower it gets.

Does this make sense? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I HAVE HAD STUFF LIKE THIS HAPPEN MENY TIMES BEFORE.
TOO MUCH FOR THE INTENT MANAGER
THE THING TRIES TO ALLIGN, MAKE NORMAL, MAKE PARRALLEL ALL SORTS OF STUFF. IT IS A FRUSTRATING PRO/E-ISM.
MY SUGGESTED FIX IS TO HAVE SMALLER SKETCHES.
YOU CAN REFERANCE THE PREVIUS SKELATON USING AN ALLIGNED CENTERLINE AS A START POINT.

THE BENIFIT TO SIMPLE SKETCHES IS THAT THE GUY WHO HAS TO MODIFY YOUR DRAWING OR MODEL AFTER YOU...CAN.
YOUR WORK WILL BE EASIALLY UNDERSTOOD.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

This might help,

Under Sketcher Preference you can choose which constraints you want the Intent Manager to look for.
You can deselect all but point on point and be able to snap the line end point but not have the Intent Manager looking for every possible constraint in your large sketch.

OR if this is what you already described, try turning off intent manager drawing the line and adding two dims to position the end point and two other dims or constraints to fully constrain the line. Then you will be able to turn the intent manager back on and add your coincident or other constraints and delete the dimension you created with intent manager off.

Yes I have all the automatic constraints turned off.

I tried sketching without intent manager and I get "Unresolved Section, do you want to exit sketcher anyways?", I say yes and all that I am left with is an option to redefine it or to cancel.

Thanks for the input. Like Jose said, "it's a proeism"

Mark,

If you add the dimensions like I suggested in Paragraph 2 of my previous post you should be able to regenerate the section and Turn Intent Manager back on and the exit the sketch with the line intact.

Michael,

Sorry about the delay in my response. What you say works great on a basic sketch; however, in my sketch/skeleton-vector analysis, the problem is that my existing sketch will not regenerate with out intent manager. First I get "unable to regenerate, highlighted entities are too small", so I fix these and then it says "line segment is not properly aligned". So I fix this and .... It just goes on. Like I said in my first sentence, I am trying to do a lot in one sketch. Thats ok, once I get all of my force vectors properly in there it up dates quickly. Thanks for your suggestion. If you would like to see the skeleton, I would be happy to send it to you.

PS Somebody said to change to win32.... I did and this did not speed it up any; ie., 2min 45sec to draw one line. But thanks I will keep it in mind.

The intent manager, because it can't guess what you're trying to draw, is running through as many possible interpretations of the geometry you've drawn as it can. I'm guessing this number of possibilities increases exponentially as the number of lines/curves on the sketch increases.

The best option is, as mentioned before, to make smaller sketches. Using the 'use edge' command you can effectively import the relevant geometry from one sketch to the next.
