We are just getting familiar with SolidEdge ST3 Insight.
Some areas are still unclear to me.

Where do you place family of parts and common part files shared or use by designers in Insight?

I am not 100% sure that I understand your question correctly. What I can say is that when using Insight Server all files must be in document libraries and the libraries must be specified in the “searchscope” file. It is only our template files that are in a normal shared folder.

Thanks for the reply Toffeet, my question is if we have standard parts that we use like bolts and we want to put it Insight, do we place it in a Document library under the Released Lifecyle?

Also I am noticing that I am able to save files doign a Save as in the Insight Released document folder even if I am not a member of the Eng_doc or the Doc_control group, is this normal?

We have a specific folder in the released document library for standard parts. You can use “Add to Library” in the View and Markup application to add files to any document library.

With regards to document control the following:

1. Only members of the “coordinator” group can edit released documents.
2. Only members of the “engineering change” group can create revisions.
3. Saving or adding documents to the released document library are controlled by SharePoint groups. If you are a member of the site’s members group you can read and edit documents. If you want to restrict a user to only read access he or she must only be a member of the site’s visitors group.

Thanks Toffeet for sharing all this good information which I cannot seem to get from anywhere else.

I do have a number of questions still that you may be able to enlighten me.

1)Can Solid Edge members who have contribute permissions able to do a Save As in Solid Edge and save in Released library?

2) Can Solid Edge member go thru Revision Manager and move files from WIP library to Released document library?

3) Can Solid Edge members add unmanage files and use LifeCycle assistant and directly add it to the Released library?

4) When saving or adding files in a managed library, do the users have to define the File Properties as In Work or Released prior to saving to the respective document library?

Thanks,
Lourdes
