Inspection Code API 510 vs. National Board Inspection Code

Hello,
I am preparing a document that will describe the steps to be followed and codes to be used in a modification that we have to perform on a pressure vessel fabricated under ASME Secc. VIII, Div. 1. Basically, we are going to open two new nozzles on a vessel that has been in service since many years ago. In the code section, I know I have to state that ASME Secc. VIII, Div. 1 shall be used for new pressure containing parts. However, I have doubts in recommending Inspection Code API 510 or National Board Inspection Code for all the other activities involved in this "alteration" (tests, inspectins, etc.). Does somebody know when one applies over the other, or if I can recommend both as references for the works to be performed?

To answer your question, you need to contact the local regulatory body or Jurisdiction where the component alteration will occur. If you have no regulatory body or Jurisdiction that regulates the repair or alteration of pressure retaining items, you would need to default back to the Insurer of the component, or if you are self insured you can do as you please (NBIC or API).

Since I am partial to the National Board Inspection Code and it is an ANSI Standard, I would follow the requirements of the NBIC.
