What is the best NDT / Inspection technique available for inspection of a 14" Carbon piping with Nickel Overlay. This piping is the outlet pipe of reactor in a polyethylene plan. Carrying Polymer at 170 Kg/ Cm.2 Pressure & 300 Deg. C.

Not enough information, what is the Nickel overlay?, thickness, base material and thickness, what are you trying to assess, etc.

Maybe then we can help...

The ASME II SA 265 refers to the Nickel cladded Carbon Steel material requirements, inspection and testing (new material). What is the scope of your NDT/Inspection of those pipes? Detection of defects in cladding?

Dear Rustbuster,

Thanks !! plz find below moreinformation about the piping.

The Pipe is : 14" Sch. 160 (35.37 mm thk.).
Pipe Material : C.S. with Nickel Overlay on ID.
Corrosion Allowance : 1.6 mm for C.Steel
Service Fluid : Hydrocarbon
Service temperature : 310 Deg. C
Service Pressure : 150 Kg/ Cm.2
Service Rendered : 14 years

Nickel overlay has been provided to resist erosion due to stringent service conditions.

My concern : How to inspect the Pipe & the condition of Nickel overlay after 14 long years of service.

Hope above should give a better idea about the piping.

MY concern
