Installing UG Nx CAST files on a network ? 2

Greetings,
New user, new member here. I've been patiently waiting for our IT / Sys Admin to install the CAST files, but not having any luck.

Question #1 : Does the Sys Admin download the CAST files from the web or get them off the distribution dvd ??

(He's been unsuccessfully looking for them on-line)

Question #2 : The CAD Manager would like CAST installed on a network drive, so everyone has access to the information.

Any help in this regard or directions would be most appreciated.

By the way this is for versions 8.5 & version 9.0 ... hopefully there is a link to step by step instructions I can point the Sys Admin to.

One thing to keep in mind, CAST doesn't exist for NX9 and upwards. You can get it for NX8.5 however.
From NX9, you buy Learning Advantage which is online CAST, served by Siemens. Ask your NX sales rep for information.
If you already has CAST, it's likely that you have access already, you just need it set up.

1. Yes to download, Yes to DVD. However you have to buy CAST to get a disk or be able to download it.

is where to download from. You will need a webkey account.

is the link to make a Standard one. The Webkey Access Code & Sold to ID you need to create the account are in your license file.
You can also get that information in NX by doing, Help -> About NX -> System Information.

2. Yes you can put CAST on a network drive. Copy/install it to a network drive, then you need to set the CAST variables for the clients to point to where it lives.
If you can also web serve (using IIS or something like it) CAST.

The following are the variables that are set on my system for NX8.5 CAST:

UGII_CAST_HTML_URL D:\SPLM\NX8.5.3.3\nxcast\html\index.html
UGII_CAST_HTML_DIR D:\SPLM\NX8.5.3.3\nxcast\html
UGII_CAST_PARTS D:\SPLM\NX8.5.3.3\nxcast\parts
UGII_CAST_HOME D:\SPLM\NX8.5.3.3\UGII\html_files\start_english.html

These are normally set in the ...\UGII\ugii_env_ug.dat file.
Best way is to copy those variables from that file and put them in the ...\UGII\ugii_env.dat file instead.
This file is designed to contain only the changes you make, so it won't be overwritten like the other file when you patch NX.
