Is there a method to define the use (or other wise) of Insulation gasket sets on flange bolts to combat corrosion, when making a flange joint with flanges manufactured from different metals.

I have used Isolation flange kits for isolating pipelines that have Cathodic protection. The bolt holes are sleeved. Try the corrosion forum for more assistance or type Flange Isolation Kit into Google. It produces lots of Specs.

Try the flexatallic website.

If you're worried about the corrosion of the gasket, then stainless steel is the material of choice since affinity to carbon steels are low. If you are worried of the flange itself undergoing galvanic corrosion, you can paint the component to insulate it from the opposing dissimilar metal.

I've never experienced this to be an issue. What kind of working medium are you using?

There are standard flange bolt insulation kits made just for this purpose. I think they are made of phenolic. Just do a web search for flange bolt insulation kit.

Thanks!

You don't want to use this type connections unless it is absolutely necessary.

Here is a company that has about everything you will need if you have to go that way.
