I am about to start a project designing & modelling a new intake port for an engine using NX7.5.
Most of my CAD experience is with ProE, I have some NX expereince but this is limited to much simpler polygon based geometry so I am after some advise from anyone who has experience of this type of task.
The general shape of an intake port's cross section area needs to remain constant along part of its length then sweep round a bend with its cross section reducing down then intersect the target geometry at the back of the valve. All of the geometry needs to be tangent with the changes in cross section being as smooth and progressive as possible. In ProE I have always constructed a basic framework of curves then used surface features to blend between these curves with the correct tangency but I have no experience of how to do this in NX so any advise on the type of features I should be trying to use would be welcomed.
Also, when designing an intake port you are constantly measuring the cross sectional area of the port along its length to allow you to understand the progression in area and hence the nominal gas velocity. When modelling this in ProE the Sensitivity Sweep function allows you to automatilcally measure the cross sectional area at regular intervals along the port length then it produces a graph of the results. Is there any similar way to automate the measurement of the cross sectional area in NX7.5?
Thanks.
