Hello,
At one of our Hydro Power Plants, we are planning to replace the governor and exciter control system. I am the lead Electrical Engineer for this project. The governor will be replaced with PLC-based digital governor system. For the exciter, we may just change the controls (Automatic Voltage Regulator and Power System Stabilizer) or change the whole exciter.
Also, we are planning to integrate the controls of the exciter and the governor to the same HMI. GE an ABB now offer a fully integrated system that can be used to access both the governor controls as well as exciter controls. If you have had this experience of integrating the controls of the of the exciter and the digital governor, can you please highlight the meain features of the project and also answer some of my questions below?
1) Who was the vendor for the project?
2) How many units were there and how long did it take to complete the project (tentively)?
3) Has there been any technical issues after the installation? If yes, how is the after sales service from the vendor?
4)Efficiency wise does the integration of the control better than to have separate controls for the exciter and the governor?
Regards,
SG
