Might not be the best forum to post this question, but I didn't see a better one.

I'm working on an engineering startup and will need a simple drafting tool that can run on a reasonable laptop computer. I've been an ACAD user since the late 80s, but don't want to pay several thousand dollars for the simple functionality I'll need.

A colleague pointed me to IntelliCAD, said I could get it open source and compile it myself. I have not been able to find an open source copy that's free to compile, but have found many different companies who are developing platforms that run in concert with it. Here are my questions:

A) Is IntelliCAD worth a crap?
B) What's the best one to buy (assuming there's no 'free' option) that's B.1) Not a resource hog, and B.2) cheapest

?

Thanks in advance.

How about Acad LT? Last time I looked it ran in the $800 range.

If your concern is only 2D,then intellicad is quiet ok..i 've been intellicad user 2 years back..(nw my company shifted to ACAD),,but there is only few diffrences between each...but 3D part in intellicad is not as similar to ACAD..other financial issues you can check in respective websites
you can download a trail version of intellicad also (
