Greetings,

Just a quick question.

I have a project where the existing ceiling is drop ceiling is being removed, and the HVAC mechanical system is not making the entire space ventilated.

NFPA 13, table 8.3.2.5(b) specifies that sprinkler heads in ventilated spaces of certain locations need to be ordinary temperature.

This would seem to indicate that as the space has gone from a non-ventilated space to a ventilated space, the sprinkler heads would need to be changed out from intermediate temp to ordinary temp.

I would appreciate your input and code analysis on this scenario.

Since the 2010 edition of the standards, you are allowed to use ordinary OR intermediate temp sprinklers throughout, unless a heat source requires a higher temp. Prior to 2010, you had to use ordinary unless a heat source requires a higher temp.

So, if you have intermediate throughout, you should be good.
