I am trying to understand what the correct practice is for intermittent welds for a non-primary member.

The code in question reads:
"6.5.1 ...Welds shall be made on both sides of the joint for at least 25% of its length."

Does the 25% mean that the total length of the welds on both sides =25%
or
That the amount of weld on one side = 25% and the welds are adjacent to each other along the member.

Thanks for you help.
J

This would also contradict what was stated on thread178-45263

Gymmeh,
I don't have the referenced Code book, but, I wanted to point out that the thread you referenced is not talking about intermittent welds, it's talking about the proximity of two butt welds.
