Did you try renaming the bak file to a dwg file and then opening the new dwg file?

Or, start a new drawing and insert the damaged file?

Thanks, but i have tried both inserting & naming bak file
but both ways the file will not open.
Been searching all morning, but still not found a way
to open the drawing. I may have a chance if i can open
it with another cad package.

Recover command yet?

Yes i have tried recover and it did not work.
i am going to try and open it on a later version of
autocad or use intellicad to open it. if that fails
i will have to start again.
