concerned regarding the application for Tank with service:Condensates, Design temperature: 100°C, since the Tank temperature is high and the service is Condensate, do you know any procedure /product to cover this need?

I would start with giving Carboline a call about their tank linings. make sure you talk to some technical people at Carboline as these materials are changing everyday. Remember that your lining is no better than your applicator who has to follow instructions and use the proper correct equipment for the product. When you select a lining you should become familiar with the product and it's applications to be able to ask the proper questions when there are any problems.

Ditto to the above. Not necessarily with Carboline, but with your industrial coating manufacturer of choice.

To all....

I have always been concerned with the amount of care given to selection of internal coatings for tanks. I feel that this is something that has not been given enough attention in many large industrial projects.

Since coatings systems can seriously affect overall project costs and since the long term life of the tank is usually controlled by coatings selection.....why is this not more important ?

In many cases the coatings system can cost more than the tank !!

In some cases, the coatings system should be evaluated for future storage of a number of various liquids

The selection of coatings system should be done with the tank owners involvement and consent and several top vendors should be consulted (Carboline is certainly top-shelf). Remember, the coatings system is a long term investment. just like the tank itself..!!

Selection of a coatings system should involve a lifetime payback analysis, and a careful evaluation of NDE techniques and repair requirements.

(Whew....I feel better...!!!)

Anybody else have strong feelings about this issue ?

I agree wholeheartedly in more ways than I can count and you can imagine. Coating are not generally done correctly from the get go.

Even though I normally don't concur with any internal tank coating even after being in charge of the benchscale tests that showed that a coating would be satisfactory for a particular tank and process material under certain conditions. I would always refrain from saying or being on record stating that a coating was OK for such and such instead it was always laboratory tests showed that xyz coating was satisfactory for these particular conditions.

One of the biggest problems in coatings is that if the production people have a tank for a specific purpose they will always find a way to put something else in it.
As stated above, cost have never came in on budget or the project on time, something always happens to drive up the cost. I seen them all broken equipment, wrong blasting media, getting ahead of the program, weather, and idiocy. I know of one tank I believe you could have made it out of gold for what it has cost to date and it is still not right.

I put Carboline in the post as a starting point but others may have a better material for this application. This is another way of say don't get locked into one vendor until you get to know what's out there.

We stuck mainly with Carboline and Plasite coatings as both companies normally stayed ahead of the curve on product development.

Remove all piping except one line, the test product used for the coating for the tank. If they wan t to add something make them alert the proper people so it can be tested properly. You can't dribble a little in and see what happens.

Watch your personal as a lot of crews are of the pickup variety. Also companies will move people around during jobs to get there better or more knowledgeable people on certain jobs.

As I've stated before a sandblaster is lot more critical to a job than people will admit. A good blaster will get the job done correctly and save you money and time. One thing I accomplished was getting our site blasters into an entry level mechanics pay scale. You would have been amaze at the change in the blasting area of our laydown yard.

Learn the materials, follow the rules, fire off when you need to. In this case it is OK to lead with your lips.
