I have an assembly that uses an ASME B16.5 6" 2500# SA-182 F347 flange; manufacture is per Section VIII Div.1. This flange has a number of holes that need to be drilled through the face of the flange. During manufacturing, it was noticed after breaking drill bits that there were voids down in the material of the flange. We plan to UT these flanges to determine the extent of the voids, and I'm having difficulty finding acceptance criteria.
Looking at Section V, the appropriate section looks to be T-571.2 as far as UT examination method goes. T-580 covers evaluation, but this section states:
For examinations using DAC calibrations, any imperfection with an indication amplitude in excess of 20% of DAC shall be investigated to the extent that it can be evaluated in terms of the acceptance criteria of the referencing Code Section
I'm not clear what this means. Wording such as acceptance criteria of referencing Code Section makes me think I need to check in Section VIII Div.1, but when going there, I only see criteria for welds (Man. App. 12), not the components themselves.
Where can I find UT indication acceptance criteria for flanges?
Thanks.
