International Efficiency of bore hole submersible motor

Is it true that International Efficiency (IE1, IE2,IE3, IE4) is not applicable for borehole submersible motor?
We usually order all new motors with IE3. We need to order a new bore hole submersible pump motor. Supplier says International Efficiency is not applicable for such motor.

Motor proposed has full load efficiency: 91 %. Is this correct for a 220 kW 400 Vac 3000rpm?

This is usually the case It is not necessarily that the motors are bad or inefficient. Motors designed to be integral with submersible pumps are not able to be tested appropriately to the standard to determine the IE rating. The IE rating is more about the general standard style motor with fan cooling etc.

91% efficiency is not too bad. The best of the best would probably get an extra couple of percent. However you also need to check what it is like at loads less than full load.

These motors are designed to fit the holes, eff is a secondary issue with them.
We never tested to the IE requirements.
We used to build motors that were 5.62" diameter x 28' long, and then stack 3 of them to get 750hp. That is how you get over 12,000' of lift.
As diameter goes up the eff improves (for both motors and pumps).

Can you give some more details?
Also, the company name, list of products (submersible pumps only), website, etc.
 
I worked for REDA, now owned by Schlumberger.
There are two or three other builders of these as well as a whole bunch of people that re-build them and re-brand them.
The other main builder is CentriLift, part of Baker-Hughes.

REDA was formed by the inventor of this technology and has been building them since 1926 in the US. Motors range from 3.75" up to 7.375" diameter and pumps from 3.375" up to 11.25".
These are used for enhanced oil recovery, deep lift water pumps, and even as surface mounted pumps for high pressure injection.
