Hi

Has anyone completed any of the training courses offered by International Institute for Plant Engineering and Design?

How did they work out? Did they benefit you? Are International Institute for Plant Engineering and Design recognised/respected in industry?
I am looking at training options for the piping guys on my team and I have come across Iniped in few place.
Are the courses difficult?
I'm looking for something that will
1) improve my designers without taking over their lives. Most my guys won't be overally academic. THey are more practical minded.
2) Ideally something formal and recognised that will be a benefit to both the company and to the guys for their CV in future.

Any other ideas of where to look for this type of thing would be great too.

It's a new Institute, I think their first meeting was September last year.

Could be very helpful to the Industry if their Linked-In chat lines are accurate. Could be an expensive waste of time.

I would recommend get a proper prospectus and any other info you can. Look carefully at the course content and structure and judge how relevant it might be to your company.

Don't be blinded by a flashy title or possibly bogus qualifications. There are enough rubbish degrees out there already, offered by so-called 'non-accredited' universities and any decent HR department wil be well aware of those.

Well the English on the website is appauling. "Importants of Knowledge and Experience" is one of the titles of their courses. "Importants" I ask you ????? Give them a miss is my advice until at least they get the website looking halve decent.

The International Institute of Plant Engineering Design (InIPED) started September 2012 with the first courses. The purpose is to capture the knowledge of experienced engineers and teach their knowledge and experience to students or young engineers.

The Institute is a Joint Venture of the University of Zaragoza and Red-Bag. This brings teaching- and industry experience together as strong team. The Institute has taken quite some time to find out what the industry is requiring and how this should be done. Various visits have been made to Engineering Contractors (such as CB&I, Fluor, Technicas Reunidas) and plant owners (such as Sabic, ENI Saipem Ltd) to discuss the teaching approach and study material.

The Institute also made an effort to attract various Instructors of different disciplines and background to prepare the study material and to do the actual teaching. The Institute continuously hires more Instructors which will improve the experience level in the courses. The courses will not be static but will be improved over time. The Institute regards the Instructors as the most important asset. They make the difference with a regular course.

The courses have only just started and still things need to improve (such as spelling). But check a course program and see what is being addressed in the course:
