interpretation of number of layers of half-lapped tape 3

If someone says "six layers of half-lapped tape", should we interpret this as:

A - 6 passes, each half-lapped, resulting in total thickness of approx 12 layers of tape.

B - 3 passes, each half-lapped, resulting in total thickness of approx 6 layers of tape.

Based on the info you provided I would definately say A. The result of six layers of lapped tape is 12 layers of tape.
And besides if this is for a splice, the more the better.
 
I've always interpreted the same as (A).. I'm interested in whether my interpretation is a good one..
 
Thanks guys. I also see there is an EPRI spec for dedicated turn insulation (over conductor enamel/dacron stand insulation). For >7kv motors they require "2 half-lap or 4 butt-lap layers" of mica tape. That seems consistent with your interpretations.
