Intersecting shear wall

Im a young unlicensed engineer designing a house in Oxnard, Ca. I was just wondering if intersecting shearwalls like what is shown in the attached image is allowed? There is a 6.75x12 glulam sitting on top of the HSS column. I figure as long as straps are provided around the glulam beam to transfer shear forces I can use the entire wall as one long shear wall. Rather than have the shearwall stop at the HSS column and then start again after the HSS column. Any thoughts?

I agree with your proposal in general. If it's an unblocked wall, it will probably be pretty straight forward. If it's a blocked wall, you'll need to think about how to handle blocking across the stud cavity housing the HSS column. For that reason, you might detail a stud on either side of the column.

If the glulam beam sits atop the column, you might just notch the top of the beam to allow the wall top plate to pass over. It'll probably be wise to consider any potential issues with construction sequencing, prefabrication, etc. Run it by your contractor if you have on on board.
