I have a simple part with only six features. When I try to edit the first feature I get the error "Internal error: invalid solid object tag." What's wrong?

There could be several different issues at play here. Is the model imported from another system using IGES or STEP or one of the direct translators? Have you attempted to run File -> Utilities -> Part Cleanup... yet?

If cleanup didn't help, you'll probably need to contact GTAC and have them look at the part.

The part was made in NX. Since posting I did contact GTAC, and sent them the part file; waiting for a response now.

You always want to run part cleanup first.

It is often instructive to know whether any wave links are involved with situations with some of these data problems. If that is the case you may need to send the parent file with the affected part file to GTAC if you can't fix the problem.

It usually means that there is an object in the part that for some reason contains a dud record. Since there are only six features it shouldn't take too long to use make current feature and wind the model back and forward several times. Sometimes that is all that it takes to get make the problem go away. At the very least you will probably find out which feature has the problem. Doing things like creating a primitive (block, cylinder, sphere etc) just so that you can re-order it before all the other features sometimes helps too. Afterward you can delete the extra primitive.

I would only add that most of the time your really ought to be able to find some way around it as I have seen similar things on several past occasions and always managed to maneuver my way around it.

Best of Luck

Update: TAC support found the problem. It was caused by a bad component array in my assembly. It is a bug in version 5.0.0.25:

"PR-05887105] edit with role back causes error internal error invalid solid
object tag then this Pr i slinked to another pr 1641152 where Assembly fails
to open when component array features are in invalid state. "

I deleted the componenet array and the problem disappeared.

speedster29,

If you can, you might want to consider adding a Maintenance Release or Maintenance Pack. I believe 5.0.0.25 was the first production release and you might continue to run into bugs that have already been fixed in the MRs or MPs.
