Inventor 10 BOM structure with stock number property

We've just moved to I10 and the BOM is rolling all the parts that have the same part number property into one item and shows the quantity. Trouble is they are all unique parts with a quantity of one. We did it this way because of the ability to change the part number property in the iproperties of a part to show what we want without affecting anything else. It appears that the addition of this new stock number property might be forcing us to make each part number, at the BOM level, unique. Does anyone know how to integrate this better. We're faced with a tremendous amount of work. I'll happily provide more info if this is not enough.
