Inventor and EPS file

Hi, how can I save/print to eps file format from inventor? At the moment I save to dwg, then I open the file in Mechanical and print in to eps, then I open the eps file with gimp to cut it before importing in Latex document. Is there a shorter way? I installed a ps printer, the I set it up to print to eps but the files I get cannot be open by any program...

"save as" to ".tiff" file, then just open with gimp. (im assuming gimp can save as an eps file)
No need to open in mech when inventor can save to most common image formats already.

Hmmm not bad, but what about file dimensions? Any way this needs to reopen the file, isn't it possible to print directly in eps?

Not from Inventor unless you have a third-party printer.

Have you tried printing directly from Inventor to your EPS driver?
If the ps printer is set up correctly there should be no reason that you can't create this eps file directly from Inventor.

Are you sure your computer is capable of opening EPS files.



GIMP is capable of opening EPS files ONLY if ghostscript is installed on your system.

# Download Ghostscript from following url for your operating systm.
(download Download gs851w32.exe if using ms-windows)

# Install it, go to /bin directory of where you installed ghostscript
# copy all exe files (may be 2 or 3 etc) and paste in gimp's roo directory (where gimp is installed)
# restart gimp and try opeing eps, ps, pdf etc files

I already have gimp with ghostscript and it works with mechanical, I installed a ps plotter in mechanical and I print from it to eps file, then i open the file in gimp to cut it and finally i inster it into a latex file. Unfortunately as I print directly from Inventor (I tried with many printers) the eps file cannot be open by gimp, this is why I'm asking how to print from inventor, I don't understand why it happens...

What is a latex file?
What is the main thing you are trying to accomplish with all this?
Maybe there is a better way if we had more details.

Latex is a system for writing text documents, it naturally imports eps filesm thus I need to have my drawings in eps file format, I use it to realize user's manuals for my plants.

Just try a different ps driver

I was able to get it to print a valid eps directly from inventor.

Just make sure you setup the advanced setting in "inventor" print setup section to print to an eps file instead of optimized for speed

still not working, it depends on ghostscript, anyway let's try a different way: can I batch convert idw files into pdf? I don't want to open them all and print to pdf, is there a program to do so?

Matteo,
Did you try the ps driver I posted from adobe? I doubt it because it works just fine when set up correctly.
You don't need ghostscript with the adobe ps driver.
Just set it up like in the link I posted then just print your idw to an eps.

Boy am I glad I don't use this Latex program because it sounds like a pain in the butt.. I'd look for better ways to create your product manuals than with latex.. Why not just use word?


As far as batch printing yes use "task scheduler" included with inventor

Found another way to produce latex files, unfortunately the driver didn't work, anyway I used Word for many documents, then I changed to Latex, it's a lot more powerful
