Hi - I've just started working with inventor 2008 after 10+ years of Solid Edge and SolidWorks and I've encountered a problem that I desperately need solved - how can I get the drawing views (draft or inventor dwg file) to update when I make a change to the model? I've tried the update and rebuild all commands and the views just will not update. If i delete the view and insert again it is correctly updated. This seems to be happen when the change is minor (change model dim by 0.100")

Should update automatically.
Silly one first but have you pressed the little lightning flash update button.
Have you only one drawing file of the model. Its easy in inventor to get a mess of cross referancing files as it does not place the drawing file automatically in the same file as the part came from as SW does.
Are you using Inventor idw or Inventor dwg files not the Autocad dwg files which may not update so well.

Thanks for your reply.

I've tried the update, update global and rebuild all command without success. The "defer update" checkbox is not checked. I tried both inventor dwg and idw files with the same result. You raised an interesting point about about cross-linked files. I made some tests today and believe I can get the views to update by closing the idw file, changing, updating, saving then closing the the model and reopening the idw file. - better than deleting the views I guess.

IDW's will only update once you have saved the model and sometimes hit the update button. However if your graphics card is not up to scratch I have found that you actually have to close and reopen the IDW as well.

I've had this problem with 2008 as well. Even if you use the "refresh" (in custom Tools) it won't update. You have to close the drawing and re-open it. Very annoying!

I haven't had any further problems since I've started shutting down Inventor before the final release drawing is generated. I can't take he risk that it might or might not update. I'm worried abot the three weeks of work I released before I noticed.
