I am a Solidworks user trying to understand a little more abut Inventor. I can not find anything about the file structure for Inventor. is this similiar to Solidworks where you have Assemblie, parts and drawings and you have external reference to from one to the other. The assembly needs to be able to find the part as well as the drawing needs to find the part for reference.

How does Inventor work in this aspect

Thanks,
Dale

Yep...Thats pretty much the way it works. There are some help files that explain how the file structures work.

I find its best to get the project files set up before I start modelling...it's just easier.

Thanks.. do you know where I can find those help files on the internet so I can take a look at them?

My problem is I have been asigned the task of trying to get a system in place to upload our Solidworks files to our digital archives ( will not get into details of that) so our parent company is using Inventor and I need an understanding of the structure. I do not actually have access to a copy of Inventor to play with...

Thanks,

Dale

Depending on the version you are running, there are some good help files about projects and file structures inside Inventor.

sdotson.com has some really good tutorials and a good start at a parts repository.
