I noticed an inverter pack on some very modern large air handling plant, presumably to control speed. Is there any advantage in using an inverter for such speed control requirements? Regards,

Adjusting the motor speed to control air flow can be much more efficient than the traditional method of using a modulating damper. With the damper, you are using up a lot of energy in the pressure drop across the damper. This is eliminated with an adjustable speed motor.

These are very common for commercial air handling units.
