I would like to reduce 2 inch square x 0.001 inch virgin gold foil (99.99pure) to a thickness of about 8 microns (roughly .0003 inches) x .75 inch square. It was suggested I should try rolling multiple squares at a time interleaved with a lubricated medium like Mylar. The “sandwich” would be held together with an envelope and the metal annealed accordingly during the process. Being just a suggestion, I do not want to spend thousands of dollars on a (bench top) precision rolling mill without some confidence this technique works. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
