I have a motor and pump for hydrant system belonging to class S1 and conforming to IS-9079 located out door. I recall that motors should conform to IP-55 for out door service.
I was wondering whether this selection is correct. Can it withstand the out door service.
Also, is there any other IS specification for outdoor motor application?

Suggestion: Consider
IP-67
where 6 stands for "Dust-tight, no ingress of dust", and 7 stands for "Protected against the effects of immersion, ingress of water in a harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time."
IP-55 has the following specification
5 stands for "Dust-protected, ingress of dust is not totally prevented but dust does not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with satisfactory operation of the equipment," and the end 5 stands for "Protected against water jets, water projected by a nozzle against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect."

If the motor is submersed for continuous operation, then you may like to consider IP-68
