Hi guys. Question for you B31 Code guys. Suppose I have a pipe spool that has a point load acting on it all the time during operation. It is not an occasional point load, e.g. a PSV discharge. Would this load be a sustained load or an operating load?

The Code definition of sustained is 'pressure, weight, and other sustained mechanical loadings'. This point load occurs during normal operation. Even though there is no Code allowable stress for operation, I still need to account someplace for this point load in my allowable stress calcs.

I believe a point load is a primary stress category and is therefore a sustained load. What do you think?

Thanks!
