IS ANYONE UP THERE GOOD WITH GD&T? I HAVE A V-BELT PULLEY I CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PUT GD&T ON IT. THE SET SCREWS ARE NOT GOING TO THE CENTER. THEY ARE 90º TO EACH OTHER BUT ONE IS OFF THE CENTERLINEONE OF THE SET SCREWS IS ON A KEYWAY THE OTHER IS 90º TO THE OTHER. ANY IDEAS?

I have a hard time with all the abbreviations used out here. What is GD&T?
 
GD&T if you haven't had ANY GD&T it isn't easy to understand, but if all your trying to do is attach it to a model then it isn't that bad.

You just pick the edge and attach a GDT tolerance to it. If your using a Datum then same thing applies, either pick the edge or the Datum tool first. Then pick what ever other one you didn't pick.

After re-reading your post you might want to post this in a differnt forum like forum174.

FYI - mikewestterfield there is no need to SHOUT.

It still isn't clear what kind of help you need. Do you need help getting GDT symbols attached to your model/drawing? -or- Are you you trying to come up with a viable scheme for tolerancing your part?

I can apply the symbols in Solidworks. I am looking for the variable scheme. I don't know how to put GD&T on something that I took for granted to be implied on the center.
 
I suggest you get yourself a copy of ASME Y14.5M, it will explain use and application of GD&T symbols. I know it not what you want to hear. [bigears] [nosmiley]

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?
 
You need to recognize your design intent and determine which features you want to apply GDT to.

It sounds like the screws need to be place relative to one another with respect to the center of this part, even though the screws are not on the center of a part.

You'll probably want to use positioning but it's hard to tell without seeing what you are trying to do.

You may want to just state your intent in a note if possible. GD&T is not simple to understand and if you don't have a firm grasp, it is very easy to apply incorrectly.
 
Thanks for everyone's help I have had a class on GD&T but this is different then the examples I have used in the past. My company doesn't like to use GD&T so I am out of practice. I will have to reread my book or I will ask my former teacher. I think automationbabe is correct in using position, and that is what I have done for now.

Without trying to define what symbology you need, it appears as though these two holes are sitting directly on drawing 'centerlines' that are presumed by you to be 90 degrees apart, yet difficult to defend because of this presumption.

Is the whole problem easier if both holes are moved (15 degrees for example) so that two angular dimensions have to be SPECIFIED on the drawing, taking all presumption out of the picture. Seems that once these two angular dimensions appear on the drawing, tying them down with GD&T becomes easier.
