Greetings:

I have a dozen Idea drawing with a parts list on it and have been asked to create a new part list using excel instead. Is there a way to export Idea parts list data to a format that can be read by or import to Excel?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Frank.

How is the parts list generated? 2D text or is it an auto bom?

If you are wanting all of your parts and sub assemblies in an excel list please follow.

Go to Master Assembly Click on BILL of Materials first set of boxes first row third box down.

Set all of your preference of what you want in this box. Play with this. This will give you different results if want suppressed parts or what have ya. Then hit ok here

Then you see the list of your parts in the assembly. You can modify this box if you go to format. There is all kinds of options there. For example sorting and different attribute you can add to the colums and or remove.

Once you are happy hit the Print button

Then print to file clicked on

File type delimited

Then in options put > in for the delimiter

This will export out a RPT file

Then open the RPT file in Excel

Excel will walk you through the import. While going through the Excel import please use > for the delimiter so you get everything in correct colums.

Thanks Please ask if this is not clear.

Thanks you so much for this valuable information. I've asked an experience Idea's v11 user at my place and he doesn't know how to extract the bom.

Anway, I will request access to these Idea's master file to find out more. Since I don't have any experience in Idea's (I am Pro/E, Solidwork, SolidEdge, Unigraphics, AutoCAD user), is there a way to know if the parts list is auto bom or 2D text? Judging from the provided PDF files, the parts list looks like 2D text (I hope that I am wrong). If this is the case, I am thinking of exporting Idea's drawings to Autocad dwg then convert the table from AutoCAD to Excel. What do you think of this approach?

Your time and help is greatly appreciated.

If it is 2d generated You can do this. Export the file out to a DXF or DWG. I have an excellent LSP program to export this text into excel with correct columns with once you get the list into Autocad. I got this program form the (THESWAMP.org) You will have to make a table with lines around text to separate your columns. The lines need to be continous and have no overlaying lines or it messes up the Program. If you want this program and an example I can send it to you.

The way you know if it is auto generated if you go to modify it and it brings up the modify bom options then you will know.

Thank you so much for all the help. This will save me a lot of time.

I would really appreciate if you can send me the LSP file along with the example to mcad.jgfrank@gmail.com.
