I'm working to implement a FACTS-type device in PSS/E (dynamics model) for a feasibility study. In order to do the study, I need to be able to implement control of each FACTS-type of device as well as coordination amongst all of the devices.

Is this possible in PSS/E?

A literature search indicates that it is possible to do control using FACTS models or user-written models in PSS/E, but I'd like to be sure before investing more time. Basically, the model has to be written in Fortran (or FLECS) and the state-space variables must be mapped appropriately. I have't got a chance to look into the coordination component. This would likely be another control device that manipulates all of the FACTS-type device controllers.

Any feedback would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance :)

please don't waste your time. if you have try EMTP type of program. PSS/E type FACTS models are pseudo ones.

QBplanner,

Thanks for the comments. I have access to PSCAD, RSCAD, and Matlab Simulink Power Systems toolbox.

My interest in PSS/E was for large area study (>ten thousand buses). The transient simulation packages do not easily support large systems (unless you do lumped parameters). However, my search for answers supports your comment.

Thanks :)
