I explain my problem:

I have a SCSI disk with DB Ideas V8.

The disk is corrupted, I have found a company which is able to repair it and give me the data under a windows disk

I do not know the file extensions that I will get.

Does anybody know ?

and maybe give me some examples because I need to test before spending some money to repair the disk

Thanks in advance

I think your best bet is to contact GTAC and have them explain what is required and how to accomplish your requirements.
There are many files required to restore the IDEAS TDM. You will need the .imd file, all the pmd files and then all the part, assembly and drawing files.

Good Luck.

Hi Jurgen

I have to precise that I am a NX expert and not an Ideas expert.

I have installed Ideas V12 NX on my laptop to be able to read the DB from my customer.

Your first answer has helped me to understand that the .pmd files are under c:\team\projects

the .mf1 files that containt the 3D are in c:\Documents and Settings\psi-cad (psi-cad is my login)

Where are the .imd files ?

It seems that it would be better to have the .mf1 files in a folder without blank character. How to do this ?

You need to have mf1 and the mf2 files. Make sure to put these file in locations that do not have any spaces in the path. For example Document and settings has spaces in it. I-Deas hates spaces in file paths and the names.

YOu need to set your I-Deas scratch and user directory. Usually it is like c:\user. This is in options. I forgot which tab it is. Maybe data managment.

Thanks a lot

I have found the settings in c:\Team\Master\Config\ideas_param12.dat file

Are you using IDEAS on IRIX system ? If yes, could you send me some examples 3D, ASSY and associated drawings for my test Under Windows XP ?

Thanks in advance

We are on teamcenter and windows 7. I may be able to create an archive files from I-Deas of some simple blocks and assemblies of one or two parts. Then you have to go to file import that import the archive file into your model file. Drawings will not come over with Archive files. Or just send you a couple model files if you want to test this out.

If you are going to open unix files in a windows machine you will need to set the following in your parameter file.

! MULTI-PLATFORM INSTALLATION
! ----New in Master Series 7----
! Determines whether the installation consists of a single operating
! system or multiple operating systems.
! If I-deas will be used with an External Data Manager without
! supporting Catalog Data Products through local TDM, comment out
! this parameter or set to 0. MultiPlatform is automatically supported
! with external data managers.
!
! This parameter is read only from the site parameter file.
!
! Valid settings:
! Unix only: 0
! NT only: 0
! Unix & NT: 1
! Default: 0
!
!Team.MultiPlatform: 0

Hi Jurgen,

Thanks a lot, It's a very important information.

And you, have you some unix files ?

Sorry, but we switched over to windows from IRIX many years ago.
With the setting in your parameter file there should be no issue to open unix files in a windows environment.
There is also a utility that will convert unix to windows. It is called HDSCONVERT, it is found in the bin directory where you installed ideas. There is also a good explanation in the help docs if you search for "Standalone HDS Utility"
You will need to run this utility on the PMD and the IMD files. The actual CAD data files will get converted when you open them, if you have the parameter setting correct.

Your best bet is to contact GTAC and have them help you with this.

Jurgen
