Is SAE assuming ASME ACME thread form?

SAE J2197 generically calls out "0.500-16-ACME-2G-RH-EXT" but I don't find anything in that Standard with respect to an SAE ACME threadform Standard. I am assuming that they are trying to specify "0.500-16-ACME-2G per ASME B1.5-XXXX". Do others agree? If so, doesn't it seem odd that SAE would be so vague? Also, I don't have ASME B1.3(M) which describes gaging system numbers referenced in ASME B1.5-1997. Apparently numbers 21, 22, and 23 are options for ACME threads. Does anyone know if one of those numbers is considered a default or if one is the most common?
