Is setting friction coefficient = 1 equivalent to Bonded Contact?

Hello expert,

In Abaqus, for a standard surface to surface contact, is setting the tangential friction coefficient to 1.0 for the Penalty or Lagrange method equivalent to setting the contact to Rough (bonded contact)?

Shouldn't setting the friction coefficient to 1 adequate in preventing two surfaces from slipping?

It's coloumbs friction formula, so a one is not necessarily preventing any tangential movement.
Friction Rough does that. But you have to think about the normal direction. Deactivate "Allow separation" to also fix this direction. So these two options combined can create a tie contact that is established during the simulation.
 
No. Setting a coefficient of friction to infinity will accomplish that.
 
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't consider the Normal direction. No wonder I was still getting some displacement. Very much appreciated.
