Is SMA required for license sheet regeneration?

We have a current SMA with Siemens but I am curious what happens if we allow our SMA to expire and the piece of hardware that our license sheet was issued for dies. Is it possible to get a new license sheet issued for for a new piece of hardware? I'm not talking about any upgrades here. I realize that when your SMA stops you are stuck at whatever version of the software you happened to have at the time. I am just curious if it is possible to get a legacy license file reissued if the license server hardware dies and needs to be replaced?

As it stands for us, we can, because we do it for old customer installs all the time (I work for a rseller). Best to check with your reseller because different regions may have a different policy.

Thanks Anthony.

Generally I feel that we should always have a current SMA for any piece of software that we are depending on. However, we are using this one Siemens product, not NX, that seems to me to be a good candidate for dropping the SMA. It is an old product, hasn't been updated regularly, and is not something we have ever required support for in over 10 years.

Our IT dept. is scared to death of dropping the SMA because they are afraid that if the license server dies we'll never be able to get the old license sheet reissued.

So it seems that the fate of this is in the hands of our reseller? Is it actually the resellers choice of whether to do this or is the policy set by Siemens and the reseller is bound by whatever that policy is?

The resellers don't set policy, it will be the Siemens region you are in.
