Is there a shelf-life for Medium Pressure Mercury Lamps

I have a general lighting question regarding our medium-pressure, mercury vapor lamps that are used for our water disinfection process. Do lamps such as these have a shelf-life? I've recieved both "yes" and "no" answers so I'm hoping to clear the air.
