We need to test some butt welded tubing to failure with a tensile test at the welded joint. This is 1" OD x .065 steel tubing. Are there and "standards" procedures for doing this? ANSI, ASME?

Thanks
Ken

Yes. It sounds like you are attempting to qualify a welding procedure or if even testing a butt welded tube, please see ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IX, specifically QW 462.1E. This section of the code is for welding and brazing procedure and welder and brazer operator qualification. In QW-462.1E of Section IX, the small diameter pipe (or tube) is tested as full section with the butt weld. There are specific instructions for this tension test on small diameter butt welded pipe or tube, also described in ASTM E8, Figure 11.
