I noticed some manufacturer call it ENP and some call it ENC.

Just want to know is there any difference?

Thanks.

ENC = Coating
ENP = Plating

The latter is usually preferred, I believe.

Snorgy! Thank you!

Obviously then this refers (by wording) to two different technical processes (which might be overlapping for some, but probably not all processes).

Answer: yes, there is probably a difference!

You have to ask customers for which detailed description and norm they will accept, and what procedures and qualifications (certificate, manuals, procedures, QA -systens etc., etc they will accept, (or what you will accept if buying)).

SNORGY, thanks.

gerhardl, I definitely know what C stands for and what P stands for, whether I am a native speaker or not.

I was asking what's the process and performance difference of these two trims.

Gerhardl's post is trying to <gently> let you know that people from all sorts of different industries from all around the globe participate in these forums.

So while you know what "ENC/ENP" mean, not everybody does. It therefore makes it harder for others to help you with your problem.

Maybe if you had taken the extra few seconds to type out: "Does anybody know the porcess and performance differences between electroless nickel coating and electroless nickel plating" you might get more germane answers.

Then again, when your initial post is lazy and your first response disses someone who's been around as long as gerhardl and who is one of the "most valuable players" on this forum (see that list to the right??) expect that others aren't going to bother with you.

The coating as a result of the coating process is less corrosion resistant and is more susceptible to peeling and flaking off than is the electroless nickel plating.

vpl, ok. I am sorry for the misleading and will take care for the future.

Part of the confusion is that ENP usually is accepted as synonymous with Electroless Nickel Plating whereas ENC sometimes stands for Electrolytic Nickel Coating. The key difference, ironically, appears to be in the E, not in the C versus P. The electrolytic coating uses a bath and an externally applied current, and the coating is comparatively porous, uneven in thickness, not as hard or hardenable, and less corrosion resistant than in the ELECTROLESS Nickel Plating process (in which phosphorus is part of the plating).

At least that is my understanding based on the research I have done.

SNORGY.

Thanks SNORGY.

Clear explanation and completely make sense why the clients prefer ENP

So really, should be ENP or Nickle Plating. I think basically ENC should not even be used is what gerhrld mean.
