Is this a deviation of performance specifications?

I am working on a combination office/lab building. In the performance specs it says to provide a CAV air handler with carbon filter, and all the other regular stuff (water coils, economizer, etc.) for the lab space. It also says to provide the office space with a VAV air hanlder with regular pre/final filters and all the other stuff. Since providing a CAV air handler will necessarily have to be a VAV air handler in order to compensate for the dirty filters, is it a deviation to provide a single VAV air handler with carbon filters, going to CAV boxes for the lab space and VAV boxes for the office space?

It seems like it'd be cheaper this way too, and in the lab space they will be working with fish, so it will eliminate any smell that is exhausted that may be picked up by the OAI.

:)

I believe I would stick with the performance specs, that is 2 seperate units

Don't try to be too smart. You will just be blamed for anything that would go wrong. Your effort will not be appreciated.

I agree with MintJulep's FAQ, ask for a written confirmation from the designer. If they agree you'll look like a hero, if not, no harm done.
