Has anybody heard of this standard?

I have been trying to come up with an alarm guideline for the facilities we have.

In my mind, our processes are very simple and easy to alarm. However, if it is correct that the insurance companies or OSHA will adopt this, I rather take a look at it.

Has anybody used/seen/heard of it?

Not me. I am aware of the alarm management issues. As the linked article suggests, the ISA working committee SP18 issued a draft version of S18.02, an unissued draft standard. I searched for (issued) standards and it was not available. Perhaps I will look for the draft in my spare time. ;-)

Hi Unotec

I've used the Engineering Equipment Manufacturers and Users Association (EEMUA) Publication 191, Alarm Systems – A Guide to Design, Management and Procurement, which is mentioned lower down the page you linked to

I believe that the EEMUA document is based on the following which is also a good read and free...

"The management of alarm systems" sponsored by the UK Health and Safety Executive, Contract Research Report 166 published in 1998

Hamish is correct.

The EEMUA document is the leading document now for alarm management.

ISA's SP18 is in draft form.

However, if you are looking for a design specification, that is still up to you and your company. These documents are guidelines or recommendations. They don't specifically tell you what you need to alarm for your system or operators.

That's what I guessed. Thanks

Hi,

I've read this EEMUA guideline and I'm wondering what new and different there will be in S18.02 standard. Can anyone tell me?
Is there any draft available about S18.02 standard to look beforehand? I'm really interested about whats coming (hopefully at the end of summer).
