I am trying to get a bit of opinion based on experience. I have some columns that have approximately 3.5" of concrete cover. What is the feeling to using isolation joints or not using them in this situation.

I am thinking they are still needed because concrete will tend to crack and 3.5" isn't much protection.

Any thoughts.

Thanks.

I don't understand the question. Perhaps it's still early in the day. Where are the joints located with respect to the columns? What does the concrete cover have to do with the isolation joints?

archeng59,

The column is encased in concrete, but the flange of the column that is on the inside of the building only has the 3.5" over encased concrete cover.

Hopefully this makes more sense.

Thanks.

I would think that it is advisable to reinforce the encasement with WWF.
