We are starting to use lokring couplings & fittings on site and currently the designers are using a variation of symbols on the isometrics. I can't find anything in British Standards, is there a recognised symbol for a lokring on an isometric?

Well if your arbitrarily using these fittings where the engineer/designer "feels" like it then YES you'll need a special symbol. BUT if you using this type of fittings dictated by a pre-determined piping spec., then NO you don't, just use your normal symbols for the fittings or couplings, and your piping spec will dictate exactly what to use. Normally it's best to keep things simple!

You have to note it on the iso, lokrings are mostly not in the specs.
It's mostly used to prevent hotwork.
Take care , they are not as strong as they look, the wallthickness is smaller than the pipe!!

This is primarily for repair work, where as Europipe states above, it is preferable to hot work on a live plant. The isometrics are mostly 2D autocad drawings, with occasional hand drawn sketches during shutdowns so we are not talking about building symbols for 3D work. I have all the designers set up using identical palettes from the same cad block library so want them using the same symbols where currently there is a mixture.

Any searches online reveal nothing that would help.

@Europipe: noted about the wall thickness, we are using them mostly on service lines and low pressure hydrocarbons.[thumbsup]

If the isometrics have an integral bill of materials, why is there concern about the piping symbology for the fittings?

I have no problem using them on up to Sch 80 pipe -- LokRing has demonstrated by testing that these fittings will hold while the pipe bursts during overpressure. And for work in plant areas where is is very difficult, if not impossible, to get a Hot Work permit they have proven themselves to be superb at my plant. And yea, I would really prefer to have a buttweld. But is not always an option at working plants.
