In some cases of nozzle external analysis, it is not within the limits of WRC 297, but FEA may not be required.
a. If it does not meet the WRC297 requirements of Dn / Tn> 5 and Dn / Tn> 10 due to the thicker thickness of the nozzle, you can try to reduce the thickness first to meet Dn / Tn> 5 and Dn / Tn> 10, then check with WRC 297. If it satisfied with the external load, the thicker wall of nozzle should be satisfied as well. Only the accuracy stress on the nozzle may exceed the limit of WRC297.
b. WRC297 is for radial nozzle only. 1. The comparison between the radial and the hill side, lateral of nozzles by Nozzlepro, the max local stress ratio has no obviously change. 2. The connection boundary of hillside/lateral nozzle on the shell is larger than the radial, thus the hillside/lateral nozzle shall be stronger than the radial nozzle for against the external load when the reinforcement requirement is satisfied. The radial nozzle may be considered as the ‘worst’ case to evaluate the hillside/lateral nozzle in most of cases.
