We've recently upgraded from Microstation J to V8 (2004). There are several things that are missing, or simply don't work, in V8:

1) Place a line. Then use the Main Menu, and click/choose:

Element > Dimensions > Placement > Location

...and pick "Automatic".

Then type LABEL LINE, and snap and confirm the previously drawn line. You should get the length and bearing of the line drawn/placed automatically on the line at the point of confirmation. Now, undo what you just did (i.e., remove the dimension). Then, flip from "Automatic" location to "Manual" location in the Element > Dimensions > Placement > Location field.

Next, type LABEL LINE, and snap and confirm the previously drawn line.

Here's the problem. Back in version J, the 'Manual' location method would allow you to position the dimension on the line by sliding up and down the line until you were satisfied with the dimension's position. But now, in V8 (2004), that ability to slide/position the dimension has been removed. In fact, 'Manual' location mode behaves identically as 'Automatic' location mode in V8. That was not the case with version J.

2) Press CTL+E. In version J, you used to get a 'Bingo card' showing all the levels available in a nice window. It was easy to slide your mouse over levels to turn them on/off. But now, with V8, you get this monster list, with each level on one line, and unless you have a 24" monitor, you have to scroll up and down the list in order to turn levels on/off. This is so ungraceful and requires more effort than the version J method.

3) In V8, pressing SHIFT with a middle mouse (tentative) click brings up the snap button bar. In V8, I have been unable to get the 'Nearest' button to work. Every attempt to choose 'Nearest' fails to make the temporary snap mode to 'nearest'.

4) Did Bentley kill the Command Window in V8? The closest I can get to the vJ Command Window is V8's 'Key in' window. It falls short, however.

Any comments? Are 1 and 3 bugs?

Thanks.
