Back about 25 years ago, I contacted an organization called the JIC. (Joint Industrial Council) to obtain standards for electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic machine controls and was able to purchase these standards. I have since lost them. I tried searching the Internet for a reference to JIC, their standards, etc. and couldn't find anything. Can someone tell me if they still exist and are standards available?

Thanks,

Don Leffingwell
dleffingwell@snet.net

You can get the standards through the ASTM. Some have been adopted by other organizations.

I think that they may have been superceded by the National Tool Builders Association

I had a mailing awhile back and there is an organization that has made all of the old JIC standards available. They do not have any plans to update the standards since, as ghillis stated, many have been picked up by other organizations. What they basically are doing is making documents that us old timers used for reference and are/were comfortable with, availbale again. Sorry, but I looked and I can't find the name of the group. You might try Electrical Apparatus' website ( - they have a department named Standards in the printed mag that does a good job of keeping up on the new and revised standards and other issues related to standards.
