I am interested in finding on-line reference materials for cross-reference of international material specifications. Of most interest are ferrous and non-ferrous metals standards comparisons for JIS, SAE, ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc.

I have found that S40C and SKD11 are not nearly as recognizable as 1040 or D-2. And these are the easy ones.

I am a buyer for an independent U.S. O.E.M. of torque converters for the auto industry. Our supply and customer bases are global and I am always dealing with a different standard. Understanding my materials is one of the most interesting parts of my job (as a non-engineer). Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The Metals Black Book by CASTI Publishing Inc. cross references Ferrous Metals in AISI, ACI, UNS, ASTM, SAE, AMS, and MIL SPEC numbers. Unfortunately I do not see any JIS numbers here. The Metals Red Book is for Non-Ferous metals but I haven't used it. One nice feature is that you can buy the entire volume on CD with your hard copy of the book.

I don't know if you ever got your question answered but if you did could you direct me to the source. We are a job shop that manufactures mining, oil field, and railroad equipment and have been running into quite a few JIS specifications. I have not been able to find a good x-reference.

If you purchase the JIS handbook, available in English, you will find a cross reference of all the JIS materials with ASTM, BS and DIN standards at the back.

Good Luck
